Last weekend, my back yard hosted its first party since spring planting. It was great fun!
I didn't get any pictures, but even if I did, I wouldn't post them here!
Anyway, some pics:
| The morning glories drooping in the sunlight |
| Pumpkins on the left, watermelon on the right |
| The cabbage. You'll see a pattern of decay in its leaves because of the caterpillars... |
| Herbs and tomatoes |
| Kelly's rose |
| The toilet garden featuring Chloe |
| Weeding the yard means large piles of weeds. Fortunately, I have places to put them in the woods |
| Cacti! |
The rainbow cactus has flowers. In the desert, they cluster together,
so I expect that the flowering is what makes this happen. |
| Purple cactus is growing lots of new pods |
| Almost every one of my cacti is growing new pods! |
| The view of the entire vegetable garden |
| The houseplants are looking good |
| The oyster shells on the front provided convenient ash trays for the party |
| Everything is green in the spring sun |
| The red flowers keep multiplying! |
| Close-up |
| Pineapple and Swedish ivy |
| Wild onions! |
| Chloe... |
She stomped these plants in a futile attempt to catch the dripping rain.
Fortunately, she didn't do too much damage. |
| The basil. I don't expect it to last much longer. |
| Chewed up catnip and mint. |
| This is what I deal with. They are much worse at night when you can pick off a multitude. |
| Fig tree has huge leaves! |
| Lemons from when I bought the tree in February are still not ripe... |
| Check this out. |
| Thinned out. |
| Pumpkins. |
| Thinning out is a necessary step to make sure that the best plants have unhindered access to nutrients and sunlight. |
| This dog. |
| Cucumbers! |
| Pumpkins and watermelons! |
| Grapes of Wrath |
| Another close-up of the fig tree leaves. It's such a nice-looking tree! |
I'm beginning to wonder if my cacti are getting too much water this spring. Even if they are, it won't matter, I don't think, when Drought 2012 hits. |
| Texas prickly pear. I'm really excited about this year's growth! |
| This guy was a bit of a late bloomer, but it looks promising. |

| Not only are there caterpillars, but there are several different kinds. |
| Notice the increasing decay. |
| Toilet garden! |
| Elephant ear is opening up. The leafy plant here isn't what you think it is. It's Virginia creeper. |
| If you look carefully you can see that there are 3 different kinds of plants in here. |
| Morning glories. |
| Thinned out. |
| This stuff is bunk. Don't use it. |
| Sprouting stonecrop! |
| Spider plant. I brought this guy back from the Dead! |
| Kelly's rose started blooming! |
| First ladybug of 2012 |
| Chewed. up. |
| The morning glories found the twine! Unfortunately, the bugs found them. |
| You'll notice all of my herbs and lettuce are gone. This was not my idea. |
| Lemon and fig. |
| The morning glories look simultaneously robust and pitiful. |
| As you can see, this cabbage is getting progressively worse. |
| What's left of the herbs and tomatoes. |
| I'm pretty sure that's a sunflower growing there. |
| Toilet garden! |
| I love this thing. |
| The stonecrop is looking bad. I cut it off after this pic, and I'm hoping the sprouts pick up the slack. |
| Looking good. |
| Mary Jane "Mar-Mar" Binks, AKA Mars Bars |
| A good note to end on. Kelly's rose in full bloom! |
